I live on Long Island (I’ve been told you must say on NOT in) but I’m originally from Connecticut. In Connecticut there are quite a few farms that make their own ice cream. Once you’ve had home made ice cream it’s hard to go back to store bought pints and chain stores. So when I found The Ice Cream Cottage in Mastic, NY I knew I found one of the best ice cream spots around.
Shooting ice cream is fun (almost as fun as eating it) but even on a cooler autumn day it can be tricky. There are lots of tricks for shooting ice cream in a studio like using dry ice or even making fake ice cream. But when you’re on location you really have to use the real thing.
Having a vision for your shots will help you nail it quickly before the ice cream melts. Although a little bit of dripping and melting can actually look great in a shot. The idea is to make the viewer REALLY want to eat the food!
Not only did I get to capture some colorful and delicious flavors but The Ice Cream Cottage also makes stunning cakes and home made candies.
